Part 1 in a 3 part series – Quoting, Sales and Cashflow
Quoting is an essential part of every business – get your price right and secure the job. If you over price you can price yourself out of work, and if you under price you can do yourself out of some hard earned dollars, or end up doing a job that simply isn’t worth the time.
Many tradespeople quote with a price they may have been using for years, and have not updated the price for increases in tax, labour, parts, petrol and other overheads.
Some businesses have a spreadsheet in excel with a formula they have made up to help them do their pricing, but it’s clunky to maintain and often out of date.
The biggest problem seems to be how to track the quote after it’s been completed and sent, many people take the excel table, insert it into a word document, wrap it up as a pdf, then email this to the client.
Usually a paper copy is kept on the desk to follow up, but this is often buried under a paperwork mountain that consumes the desk, and the quote gets left behind, with no follow up and no idea of how the pricing compares in the marketplace.
Anthony Davis from Brightwater Partnership guest blogs about improving your cashflow through proper use of a well implemented Credit Policy and Debt Collection procedure.
There is a saying that goes, “Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity and cashflow is king!” Why is it that so many in small business have cashflow issues and experience poor profitability? There are two critical issues that are poorly developed and almost never documented in many businesses. These are your Credit Policy and your Debt Collection Procedures.
Mostert’s 11th place start quickly turned into a battle of determination on Saturday at Mt Panorama.
“I made a good start and was up into eighth and was on the back of Tom (Tweedie) who was being quite defensive and making it hard for me to get past which is understandable, but I got up the inside of him at the end of ‘Mountain Straight’ and he didn’t leave me any room and closed the door – which unfortunately ended his race,” Mostert said.
After battling it out, a strong run finished him in 7th, allowing him to maintain 7th position in the Series. Teammate Ash Walsh is now in 24th, after a crippling crash on Friday, taking him out of the race.
The Miles Racing simPRO Software Falcons will return to the track at Sandown International Raceway on November 18.

19 year old Chaz Mosert has come in with the quickest time today in Bathurst despite the wet conditions. With a time of 2:33:57 seconds, he came in 2.9 seconds faster than the next fastest, Jack Perkins in the Sonic Racing car.
Mostert set the benchmark from the very opening minutes of the session, with an early 2:35.60s lap ensuring the simPRO backed Falcon was 4.5s clear at the top of the time sheets as the halfway mark approached. Reports SpeedCafe.com
Ash Walsh came in 10 seconds later with a time of 2:43.13 seconds.
An excellent start for what will certainly prove to be a great weekend!

When creating a status within simPRO – less is definitely more. The easier and more relevant you make your job status, the clearer, more understandable and valuable they will be for you and your team. If adopted correctly, they enable the instant grouping of jobs and provide visual cues to what needs to be done in order to make your business run efficiently and profitably.
Status colours and codes are defined by you and allow you to know what stage a project is up to without drilling into the job (e.g. reading the notes, checking the schedule, checking for PO’s etc).
| Status Colours | |
|---|---|
| Take Attention! | This job needs processing |
| Waiting | On weather, access, materials, dates etc |
| On the Go | No action required – job is ready & scheduled or WIP |
